The lecture, part of the International Cybersecurity Workshop: Digital Frontiers, proposes an in-depth dialogue on the concepts, practices, and challenges involved in studying crimes and criminals in the digital environment.
Digital criminology, also known as cybercriminology or cybercriminology, has been discussed as a field of study that expands the boundaries of traditional criminology. While classical criminology focuses on crimes and their determinants in physical environments, digital criminology is dedicated to understanding the dynamics of crimes committed in digital media, their perpetrators, victims, and social impacts.
This new approach seeks to answer questions about the motivations, methods, and consequences of cybercrimes, incorporating sociological and psychological analysis of those involved, as well as the technical and legal aspects surrounding cybercrime.
The lecture presented academic and practical perspectives on digital criminology in Brazil and Spain, exploring the conceptual and methodological differences between the two realities and highlighting concrete examples of action. The participation of various professors enriched the debate with multiple viewpoints, broadening the understanding of this crucial topic for cybersecurity and for the development of effective prevention and response policies.
